Timamoon is a gorgeous hideaway set high up in the hills and surrounded by forests and close to the Kruger Park & Blyderiver Canyon. Each of the luxurious Moroccan and Zanzibar styled lodges are romantic and private, with mosquito net draped four-poster beds, large fireplaces and baths to float away in. From your private pool, there are great views of the distant mountains and the valley where the Sabie River flows and Long-crested eagles ride the afternoon thermals. Superb food is served in an exotic candle-lit restaurant built on stilts alongside a small pond and overlooking a tropical garden. Dinners end in the cigar lounge with its own magical ambience.

We recommend at least two nights here in this area of spectacular scenery before starting your safari in nearby Kruger National Park. A day can be spent visiting the spectacular Blyde River Canyon, God’s Window and Pilgrim’s Rest and surrounding scenery. This is also a great area for hot air balloon rides, horse riding and white water rafting or just take a walk down to the Sabie River with a picnic basket, specially prepared for you by the Chef and sit in the shade along the bank and enjoy being in a true African wilderness.

There are some wonderful places to stay in this area, which is often missed by visitors eager to get to their safari in Kruger. Timamoon is particularly magical, both in terms of views, food and service. Our tip is to give yourself a couple of days here to relax and get over your flight and then you’ll be ready for the Big Five!
Prices from £320 per room per night half including dinner and breakfast.
