MalaMala promises the finest game viewing on the African sub–continent and regularly provides the subject matter for a veritable collection of international and local wildlife documentaries (including National Geographic). With 33000 acres of land, a long stretch of the Sabi river running through it and its immediate proximity to Kruger National Park it has many advantages from a game viewing point of view.

There are only three camps here sharing a huge traversing area. Mala Mala Main Camp is the oldest and most historical private game reserve in South Africa and the first to make the transition from hunting to photographic safari’s. It is the blueprint on which the South African safari industry was built. There are nineteen rooms here with spacious public areas, a convivial bar and a swimming pool that provides great game viewing across the river.

Next to Main Camp is Sable Camp. Imbued with the spirit of MalaMala, the Sable Camp is a more intimate version of the Main Camp and the choice for those seeking a more private and intimate safari. Situated at the southern end of the MalaMala Camp in a prime elevated position overlooking the Sand River and surrounding bushveld, Sable Camp accommodates a maximum of 14 guests. It may also be reserved exclusively for between 10 and 18 guests.

Rattray’s on MalaMala offers a glimpse of an era long past when distant travellers to Africa married the magic of the wild with an elegance and refinement that have been immortalized in the epic tale of Karen Blixen in ‘Out of Africa’. The epitome of regal colonial safari–style, the newest addition to the MalaMala portfolio is a culmination of over 40 years of experience within the Rattray Family.

Rattray’s bears the style of crystal and leather, with beautiful furnishings that are a treat to the connoisseur of the finer things in life, captured over generations on a land that remains as old as time. Each of the 8 suites or khaya (Zulu for "home") functions as an inclusive home, resplendent with hand–selected furnishings, lavish his–and–hers bathrooms, a secluded outdoor shower and a private heated plunge pool.
Prices from £563 per person per night on a twin share basis, full board in Main Camp, £650 in Sable Camp and £805 per person in Rattray’s. Airport transfers additional cost if required.
