KAYA MAWA, MALAWI
Kaya Mawa Lodge is a unique and luxurious property perched on the picturesque edge of a crescent shaped bay on Likoma Island. It is situated on the southern tip of this car-free island surrounded by mango trees and fine golden beaches. The lodge was built by hand from mahogany, teak and other natural materials with the help of the local Malawian community.
Likoma Island is the larger of two islands in the northern region of Lake Malawi and, since its discovery, remains almost untouched. The island as well as Kaya Mawa Lodge offer breathtaking views of the mountains and wilderness of Mozambique.
Kaya Mawa Lodge comprises of a luxurious range of unique cottages including a Honeymoon suite with a giant four-poster bed and en-suite bathroom where you can bath in a sunken stone tub. There are two exclusive houses with bedroom views across the lake, infinity pools and private decks. Several of the cottages have plunge pools or private decks with direct access to the lake below and the family houses are great fun with lots of space, hammocks and are situated on the beach in the shade of the mango trees.
The restaurant is high up in the breeze and allows guests to enjoy an amazing view of the lakeside. Local and Western chefs prepare delicious meals harvested from Lake Malawi and the lodge’s gardens. The bar is located next to the stunning pool which is fed by a small waterfall. This is the ideal place for enjoyable sundowners.
